Whether you are looking to smooth away lines and wrinkles, restore lost facial volume in your cheeks or plump and reshape your lips, injectable fillers can be an effective nonsurgical solution to a number of cosmetic concerns. Often called “lunchtime procedures,” fillers require little to no downtime, so you can expect to get right back to your daily routine after your appointment.
At Martin Plastic Surgery in Las Cruces, Dr. Reo Pugao offers injectable fillers for men and women in Southern New Mexico and beyond to help them achieve their cosmetic goals. Dr. Pugao focuses on facial cosmetic procedures and has extensive experience in this area.

Am I a Good Candidate?
The best candidates for injectable fillers will have realistic expectations about their results and understand that the outcome is temporary. Many people choose to try fillers before moving forward with a surgical procedure like cheek augmentation to get a better idea of what their results might look like.
BOTOX® is frequently combined with injectable fillers to address different cosmetic issues in the same area.
Men and women with deep creases and sagging skin may be better candidates for a surgical procedure such as a facelift, brow lift or neck lift.
Types of Dermal Fillers
There are a number of different types of fillers, with hyaluronic acid fillers being one of the most popular. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally-occurring sugar found throughout your body and has the ability to bind to large amounts of water. This property allows HA filler to provide a plumping and smoothing effect on your skin.
Other types of fillers may also help to stimulate collagen within the skin and can sometimes last longer than HA fillers. However, hyaluronic acid can be dissolved using a special enzyme if you are unhappy with your results for any reason. With other types of fillers, this is not possible. Dr. Pugao will discuss your options during your consultation to help you decide on the best dermal filler for your needs.

Dermal Filler FAQs
How much do injectable fillers cost?
The cost of fillers can greatly vary, depending on the type of filler you choose, how many syringes are needed to achieve the desired result, your location and other factors. On average, one syringe of hyaluronic acid filler costs around $680.
At Martin Plastic Surgery, we offer financing and payment options to help make your treatment as affordable as possible.
Are fillers the best cosmetic option for me?
This depends on your specific needs and goals. In general, fillers are a good option for those who want a boost of volume in their cheeks or lips, or who want to smooth away lines and wrinkles around their nose and mouth. Dr. Pugao will help you decide if fillers or another cosmetic solution could be best for your individual needs.
Do injectable fillers hurt?
Topical anesthetics can be used prior to your procedure to help minimize any discomfort from the needle prick. Most people report experiencing only mild pain or discomfort while getting injectable fillers.
How long do fillers take to administer?
Fillers typically take under 30 minutes to administer, depending on the size and/or number of areas being treated.
What can I expect after getting fillers?
You may experience some swelling, bruising and tenderness immediately after your appointment, but you should be able to return to work and other daily activities right away. You should, however, avoid very vigorous exercise for a few days afterward.
It can take around 2 weeks for the filler to settle into place and for swelling to diminish completely. For this reason, it’s best to schedule your appointment at least two weeks before an important event.
How long do fillers last?
Injectable fillers can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, depending on the type of filler used and the rate at which your body metabolizes the product. Some non-hyaluronic-acid fillers can last for 2 years or more.
