Weight loss, pregnancy and aging are all causes of sagging breasts, also known as ptosis. Dr. Scot A. Martin can bring the breasts back to a more natural position with a breast lift, also called a mastopexy. El Paso women typically qualify for the lollipop incision, which is also Dr. Martin’s preferred technique.
Please contact us online or call 575-521-7111 to schedule a visit to our cosmetic surgery office in Las Cruces, serving El Paso and all of Southern New Mexico. Dr. Martin and his staff are committed to helping you achieve an enhanced new look through breast lift surgery.

A breast lift (mastopexy) can be an excellent option for women who want to:
- Elevate Their Breasts
- Provide a Youthful Breast Shape
- Improve Comfort and Confidence
Good Candidates for Breast Lift Surgery
Women who are experiencing sagging or drooping in their breasts are typically good candidates for breast lift surgery. Breast ptosis is a very common problem after weight fluctuations or pregnancy. For women who want to lift and add volume to their breasts, combining a mastopexy with breast augmentation can help achieve these results.
Good candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations for their breast lift procedure. This will increase your chances of achieving results you’ll love.
Breast Lift Incision Options
In most cases, Dr. Martin is able to use the ‘lollipop’ incision, which minimizes incisions and provides excellent results. This incision pattern is named lollipop because of its shape. Dr. Martin makes an incision around the areola with a vertical incision from the areola to the breast crease. Through this incision, he is able to remove excess skin and tissue, tightening the breasts and repositioning the nipple higher.
Dr. Martin does utilize other incision methods for breast lifts, but only when the circumstances are right. The peri-areola incision is used only when there is a very mild droop. But, a majority of his breast lift patients can get great results from the limited incision lollipop technique.

Recovery & Results
After your breast lift surgery, Dr. Martin will dress the area in bandages and a compression garment which will help keep the area clean as well as reduce swelling. Drains may be used to prevent excess blood and fluid from building up. Your individual recovery time will depend on a variety of factors, including your natural healing response and if you combined your breast lift with other procedures. Getting plenty of rest and avoiding bending, straining and lifting can help support your recovery and results.
While you may notice changes immediately following your procedure, it can take several months before your final results are revealed. As you continue to heal, your breast should continue to take shape and settle into the new position. Residual swelling and scarring should fade as well.
Although your body will continue to change as you age, breast lift surgery can provide long-lasting results. To maintain your results, it’s best to follow a healthy diet and exercise and be sure you are finished having children as weight gain can undo your breast lift results.

Breast Lift FAQs
How Much Is the Procedure?
We can provide breast lift pricing at your consultation. Please note that fees can vary based on individual needs and will be determined at your consultation. This includes all surgical fees, operating room and anesthesia fees as well as pre-op, post-op and follow-up visits. The only additional out of pocket costs would be prescriptions (if you don’t have insurance).
What Type of Anesthesia Is Used?
General anesthesia is administered so that you will be asleep throughout the procedure.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
Surgery time is approximately an hour and a half. You will arrive 1 hour prior to surgery, and you will need to be in the recovery room for about 30 minutes to 1 hour after the surgery. Expect to be at the surgery center for a total of approximately 3 ½ hours.
What Type of Sutures Will Be Used?
We use a dissolvable suture. You will also have steri-strips along the incision, which can be removed in 7 days.
Is a Breast Lift Painful?
General anesthesia will be used during your surgery, so you should not feel any pain or discomfort. After your procedure, tenderness, bruising and swelling are to be expected. Many of our patients find over-the-counter medications to be enough to manage their discomfort.
You may also experience numbness in your areolae, nipples and skin in the surgical area. Feeling should return as you continue to heal. Dr. Martin will discuss pain management in more detail before your surgery.
When Can I Resume Normal Activities?
Plan to take it easy for about 3-4 days before you are ready to go back to work. After the first week, light activity is fine and encouraged. In about 3 weeks you should be ready to resume all of your normal activities, including more strenuous work and exercise.
Will Breast Lift Scars Go Away?
Because of the location of the incision, you will most likely have visible scarring. However, with adequate care and healing time, the scars should soften and fade. Scarring can be easily hidden when wearing a bra or bikini top.
Will a Breast Lift Reduce My Cup Size?
While your newly lifted breasts may appear smaller, none of the breast tissue is removed during the procedure. Dr. Martin removes only the excess skin causing the sagging, but your breast volume should remain the same. Most women find they are wearing larger cup sizes because of the stretched skin that is responsible for the sagging.
If you are interested in increasing or decreasing breast volume, breast lift surgery can be easily combined with a breast reduction or breast augmentation.
Will I Also Need Breast Implants?
On occasion, breast augmentation with implants may be recommended in addition to a breast lift to get the best results. You can discuss this option more with Dr. Martin during your consultation if you are a candidate.
When Will Final Results Be Apparent?
After several weeks, all of the swelling should be gone and the incisions should be healing nicely.
