Many men and women alike wish for a better-defined jawline that is balanced with their surrounding facial features. Chin augmentation, or genioplasty, can achieve this through the use of implants to change the size and/or shape of your natural chin. This procedure can also improve the appearance of a double chin in those with a naturally small chin bone.
Dr. Reo Pugao of Martin Plastic Surgery in Las Cruces, New Mexico is an experienced facial cosmetic surgeon, offering chin augmentation and other similar procedures to men and women in Southern New Mexico and beyond. If you are bothered by the appearance of a weak or recessed chin, please contact us online or call our office at 575-521-7111 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Pugao today.
Am I a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for chin augmentation if you are concerned about the appearance of a recessed or full chin, asymmetrical or unbalanced facial features or a weak jawline. Ideal candidates will be in good physical health and will have realistic expectations about their cosmetic surgery results.
Because the chin needs to be in harmony with other facial features, many people choose to combine chin augmentation with other facial cosmetic surgeries like rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation, or a neck lift.
In other instances, nonsurgical options such as injectable fillers can be appropriate solutions for those who don’t want or need surgery.
How much does chin augmentation cost?
The average cost of chin surgery is around $2,400, according to data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This figure does not include anesthesia costs, operating room costs or other associated expenses. If the cost of your procedure is a concern, don’t hesitate to discuss financing and payment options at your consultation to help make your procedure as affordable as possible.
Is chin augmentation the best procedure for me?
The best facial cosmetic procedure for you will depend on a number of factors, including your goals, natural facial anatomy and overall health. During your consultation, Dr. Pugao will help you decide if chin implants could be right for you.
Does chin augmentation hurt?
Chin augmentation is typically performed under light general anesthesia, so you should not feel any pain during your procedure. Afterward, you may experience some mild discomfort, bruising or swelling, but these symptoms should be easily managed with oral pain medication and should subside over the next few days.
Are chin implants safe?
Yes. Chin implants generally have a low rate of complications when performed by an experienced cosmetic surgeon. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are risks such as infection, hematoma, skin discoloration and side effects from anesthesia. Dr. Pugao will discuss associated risks with you during your consultation and help you decide if you are a good candidate for this procedure.
How long does it take to recover from chin augmentation?
Many people return to work within 7 to 10 days after chin enhancement surgery. Expect to take it easy for the first several days after your procedure, with some bruising, swelling and throbbing. You will need to sleep with your head elevated for the first few nights after chin augmentation.
Physical activity is limited until around week four of your recovery. It may take 3 to 4 months to see your final results, due to swelling. It’s important to remember that your individual recovery and results can vary.
Do chin implants feel natural?
Yes. Properly placed chin implants feel and look very similar to a natural chin bone. It is usually impossible to tell that an implant is in place when chin augmentation is performed by an experienced, qualified cosmetic surgeon.
How long does chin augmentation last?
Chin implants are designed to last a lifetime, and most people never need to have them replaced. Unlike breast implants, chin implants are solid and, therefore, do not pose a risk of leaking.
