What’s the Deal with Breast Implants & Push Up Bras?

After your breast augmentation procedure, your surgeon will likely recommend a surgical or sports bra while your incisions heal, and your implants begin to settle. After the initial healing process, new bra shopping can be an exciting adventure. Finding your new bra size, trying on bras that support your new implants, and seeing how different bras enhance your new breast profile. But what about push up bras? Can you wear push up bras with breast implants? When can you wear one?
Avoid Push Up Bras During Your Breast Augmentation Recovery
During your breast augmentation recovery, it is important that you allow your incisions to heal, the swelling to go down, and your breast implants to drop and settle into the pocket. During this time, it is important to wear a bra, such as a sports bra, that provides support but still allows for healing. During this time, it is also important to avoid underwire and push up bras as they can interfere with incision healing and with the implants ability to drop into the pocket.
Wearing a push up bra too soon after augmentation can irritate your incisions and place pressure on the implants, stopping them from settling into the pocket.
Push Up Bras Can Enhance Your Breast Augmentation Results
Implants typically settle into the pocket around 8 to 12 weeks after your procedure. Once this occurs, and as long as your incisions have completely healed, wearing a push up bra will not damage your implants and can help enhance the results of your breast augmentation. In fact, the use of a push up bra with breast implants often allows women to have a larger breast appearance when they want without having to opt for larger breast implants.
