Pregnancy, childbirth and nursing can contribute to significant changes in a woman’s body. When this happens, many women strive to get back their pre-pregnancy curves.
While diet and exercise work wonders, stubborn fat, stretched muscles and loss of skin elasticity can make it impossible to get those curves back. This is when you may consider a mommy makeover that includes a tummy tuck or a breast augmentation.
Considering which procedures to include in your mommy makeover is a big step, but what about your mommy makeover anesthesia options?
Most Mommy Makeovers Require General Anesthesia
The top procedures in a mommy makeover include breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction. Combining any of these procedures together becomes a complex surgical procedure involving multiple areas of the body and can take hours to perform. Because of this, most surgeons choose general anesthesia administered through an IV and mask.
During surgery, you will be completely unconscious, feeling no pain, while an anesthesiologist monitors your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure. General anesthesia is the safer and the number one chosen option for mommy makeover surgery. While it might seem scary to be asleep during your procedure, it’s by far the best option.
Limited Mommy Makeovers
If you do not want to go under general anesthesia, chances are the procedures you can include in your mommy makeover will be limited. IV sedation and local anesthesia, known as conscious sedation, allows you to remain awake during your procedure. However, most surgeons will not perform combined procedures under this form of anesthesia.
You may have a breast augmentation using this anesthesia option, and of course, non-surgical procedures such as BOTOX Cosmetic or injectable fillers might be a good choice if you are definitely wanting to avoid general anesthesia but still achieve a refreshed look.
