When you decide to have breast augmentation, you likely have an image in your head about what your new breasts will look like. While you may go into your consultation with your desired breast size, there are some things your surgeon needs to take into consideration.
Deciding on implant size and profile is only the beginning when it comes to planning a breast augmentation procedure. Your surgeon must also take your current body and breast size into consideration. Believe it or not, your natural shape and breast augmentation go hand in hand if you want to achieve natural and optimal results.
Your Body Size and Frame Play a Big Role
While you may not be happy with your natural breasts, they are the starting canvas for your breast augmentation and your surgeon must start with that initial canvas to achieve the most natural results.
When you are considering breast augmentation, you can’t just think about how big you want your breasts. You must consider what size your body can comfortably support. For example, large implants in a woman with a small frame may look disproportionate.
In addition, if you choose larger implants with a small frame, your body may not support them well, leading to back discomfort.
During your consultation, your surgeon will look at your current breast size, as well as the width of your chest and shoulders, to help determine which implant size will help you achieve your goals while working best with your body frame.
Do You Have Enough Breast Tissue and Skin for Your Desired Implant?
When you have breast augmentation, your surgeon uses your existing breast tissue to cover your implants. If you have minimal breast tissue, your choice of implant size has limitations, and you may need to opt for a slightly different volume or profile.
Asymmetrical Shape and Breasts
Most women have some degree of breast asymmetry. However, some women suffer from significantly asymmetrical breasts, often leading them to choose breast augmentation. When this is the case, your surgeon must evaluate each breast alone and together, often needing two different implant sizes to achieve optimal results.
