Fillers, Fat Transfer, Implants? Your Cheeks Have Options
Maybe your smile lines are becoming a little too prominent for your liking. Or perhaps you’ve always dreamed of more defined cheeks.
Whatever your reason, if you are considering adding facial volume around your cheekbones, there are more options available than ever before. Here is what you need to know about cheek implants vs. fillers and more.
Cheek Implants
Cheek implants offer a permanent solution to the loss of facial volume or weak cheekbones.
Cheek implants are similar to breast implants in that a permanent enhancement is made through surgery. These implants can offer as much or as little definition as you desire and once they are in place, you don’t need to give them much thought. The big risk with cheek implants is that if you decide the extra volume actually isn’t for you, getting them removed is pretty invasive.
Cheek Fillers
Dermal fillers can be injected into the cheeks to offer a temporary boost in volume. How long they last depend on your metabolism. Unlike implants, they can be dissolved quite easily if you find that plumper cheeks aren’t for you. You also have more room to play around with how big you wish to go since it isn’t a long-term commitment. If you want something more permanent down the line, it also can help you settle on an implant size.
Fat Transfer
Another option for cheek augmentation filler is your own fat. This is harvested from elsewhere on the body, perhaps the chin to enhance your new facial contours. It is then purified and injected into the cheeks, increasing their volume. It tends to have a more natural look than implants, but in most cases, a percentage of the fat cells will not take, which means you may need multiple transfers to get the final look.
